Based on the recommendations of the Breton
Group, the DeWitt Library Board of Trustees created a 'Site Selection/Evaluation
Committee' in March of 2006. The members were:
- Matt Kulhanek, DeWitt Township Manager
- Diane Mosier, DeWitt Township Clerk
- Greg Ostrander, DeWitt Library Board
Member
- Rene Prado, Library Director
- Ken Ross, City Council Member
- Wayne Summers, Library Board President
"The DeWitt Public Library Board
determined that the mission of the Site Selection/Evaluation Committee
should be:
- to complete an inventory of available
sites for possible location of a new District Library
- to narrow the inventory to the best
sites for the possible placement of a future new District Library
- to present the Committee's findings
to the Library Board at a date to be determined" (From the Site
Evaluations Final Report, p.2.)
The Committee presented their final report
on September 2006. During this process, Norman and Renee Farnum stepped
forward and offered a donation of 4 acres with the option of purchasing
another acre from their property on DeWitt Road south of the Herbison
intersection (the property is adjacent to the school campus property).
The property was deemed an excellent choice because it met most if not
all of the criteria spelled out by the Needs Assessment Final Report
Recommendations , and it was being donated for the library's use. As
of this date (August 25, 2007) the library was still in negotiation
with Mr. & Mrs. Farnum for the acquisition of the land.
